Q. WHY SHOULD I GO TO A DENTURIST?A. A denturist is a specially trained professional, and as a result, their experience, expertise, and knowledge are specific to your needs. It is important to remember that regardless if you have done this before or if it’s your first time getting dentures, you are entrusting someone with your overall appearance. Within the Newmarket Denture Clinic & Implant Solutions, our on-site lab enables our denturists to personally handle every step and ensure the quality of our work. We’re able to provide a quick turnaround to accommodate emergency/rush situations.
-
Q. WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I SEE SORES ON MY GUMS AND THROUGHOUT MY MOUTH?A. Sores in your mouth or along your gums may be the result of an ill-fitting denture that’s rubbing against different areas of your mouth, causing the sores and tender spots. Don’t live with the pain. Schedule an appointment with your denturist immediately.
-
Q. I HAVE TROUBLE CHEWING FOOD AND/OR I AVOID CERTAIN SOLID FOODS. WHAT CAN I DO?A. If you have trouble chewing food or chewing has become very painful, your denture may not fit correctly. Don’t avoid eating. Schedule an appointment with your denturist to ensure a proper denture fit.
-
Q. HOW LONG CAN I WEAR MY DENTURES BEFORE REPLACING THEM?A. This will vary from patient to patient. Many patients will try to keep their dentures for longer than five years, some even longer than 10 years. This is usually because they have become accustomed to how the dentures fit, regardless if they’ve become loose or worn out. Wearing old/worn-out dentures causes poor dental hygiene, excessive tissue growth, sores, and in some cases, it causes the patient to stop eating due to discomfort or an inability to chew. Regular appointments with your denturist will ensure your dentures still fit properly.
-
Q. SHOULD I USE DENTURE ADHESIVES?A. The use of Poligrip® or other forms of denture adhesives to keep dentures secure and prevent them from falling out could mean: That the denture is loose and no longer fits right in the mouth Since the denture is no longer secure in the mouth, this may make it harder to speak or eat
-
Q. SHOULD I REMOVE MY DENTURES AT NIGHT?A. Remember to always take your denture(s) out every night. If you or your loved one has not been doing so, you may begin to notice: Redness in your gums (because your gums don’t have a chance to breathe, you may begin to see the outline of the denture on your gums) Poor oral hygiene (bad breath, etc.) Excessive tissue growth along your gums
-
Q. IS IT NORMAL FOR MY DENTURE TO MOVE?A. When speaking/smiling, do you notice that your denture moves around a lot? This could be an indicator that the denture no longer fits correctly and is too loose. This may be caused due to weight gain/loss and/or weakened bone structure in your mouth.
